Porter and Trundle Bench – Sold

This award winning piece of art designed by British artists Porter + Trundle was positioned outside of the Bank of England and Royal Exchange during the London Festival of Architecture providing comfort and art to view for many Londoners.

The bench called ‘Correlated Journeys’ showcases the tube map’s ingenious use of line, simplifying the complex network that enables journeys throughout the city. The form is purposely designed to represent and abstract the tube lines which pass through the City of London.

Porter + Trundle was set up in 2019 by British artists Sarah Emily Porter and James Trundle. From their South London workshop they create bold and daring sculptural works. Using traditional techniques, they manipulate materials into ambiguous forms that are unconstrained by the expectations associated with the material. The application of colour obscures the craftsmanship invested, further simplifying the forms to allow them to drift into pure abstraction. Occupying the space between fine art and design, the functional and the dysfunctional, their work exhibits the perfect fusion of colour, form, and craftsmanship with a meticulous attention to detail.

Guided by their desire to transform and innovate British design without compromising on quality, Porter + Trundle are committed to producing versatile work that endures the passage of time. They work with clients from initial design concept through to fabrication and installation to create works of such personal significance a lasting legacy is formed.

In 2019 they won the London Festival of Architecture City Benches Competition and Richard Seager Annual Arts Award. In 2020 they became members of Design Nation, were selected for the UK Crafts Council Hothouse Talent Programme, exhibited at the London Design Festival and have been selected to participate in New Designers in 2021.
